EP Vice-President calls on Georgian authorities to release Mzia Amaglobeli for urgent medical treatment
“I urgently appeal to the Georgian authorities to facilitate Mzia Amaglobeli’s release before it becomes too late to attempt saving her eyesight through specialized treatment abroad,” Pina Picierno, Vice-President of the European Parliament, wrote on social media.
“I learned with deep concern that the visual condition of Mzia Amaglobeli, the imprisoned journalist and Sakharov Prize laureate in Georgia, has deteriorated dramatically: today she retains only about 1% vision in one eye and 10% in the other.
Medical examinations carried out by the prison authorities confirm an irreversible decline.
I urgently appeal to the Georgian authorities to facilitate her release before it becomes too late to attempt saving her eyesight through specialized treatment abroad,” she stated.
