Marta Kos congratulates Poczobut and Amaglobeli on Sakharov Prize: We need independent voices
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has congratulated the founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti, Mzia Amaglobeli, and Belarusian journalist Andrzej Poczobut on receiving the Sakharov Prize.
According to Marta Kos, the fight to secure the release of all political prisoners is not yet over.
“A few days ago, Belarus released 123 political prisoners. A moment of hope. But the fight to release all political prisoners is not over. That is why we need independent voices like Andrzej Poczobut and Mzia Amaglobeli. Congratulations for the 2025 Sakharov Prize!” Marta Kos wrote.
The European Parliament awarded this year’s Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to Georgian journalist Mzia Amaglobeli and Belarusian journalist Andrzej Poczobut. The Sakharov Prize was established in 1988 in honour of the Soviet scientist and dissident Andrei Sakharov.
