Speaker: Our delegation's visit to Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly was highly successful
“The 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union was very important for us as it allowed us to once again have discussions with representatives of 130 parliaments and parliamentary speakers, both in the assembly format and in bilateral meetings,” stated the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.
According to him, the Georgian delegation uses this assembly to strengthen the non-recognition policy, where it is necessary to explain once more the importance of keeping the principles of international law inviolable.
“The non-recognition policy is precisely the guarantor of this. We also had the opportunity to meet with several speakers of EU parliaments and members of parliament and discuss the unfortunate developments that we are seeing towards Georgia from certain political circles, which worsens relations between Georgia and the European Union. Our colleagues understand well where these difficulties come from.
I am confident that the external factors that are causing these difficulties. I mean the ongoing war in Ukraine. Once these external factors end, the relationship will return to the rules and norms that we wish to have. We also had the opportunity to address the assembly.
For our delegation, the visit was successful in terms of both bilateral meetings and work in the conference format itself. It is worth noting that Uzbekistan provided a high-level conference. In this regard, I would like to praise the hosts for their hospitality and good organization,” Papuashvili stated.
