Speaker: Our Aim is to elect new Prosecutor General next session week
Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has expressed hope that the new Prosecutor General of Georgia will be elected during the upcoming parliamentary session week.
Speaking to the media, Papuashvili noted that the Prosecutorial Council is currently deliberating on potential candidates. Once the Council reaches a decision, the process will move to Parliament for final approval.
“We have adopted legislative amendments to ensure the Prosecutorial Council has an effective mechanism to exercise its constitutional mandate — to select a candidate independently and without external interference.
The Council is currently engaged in discussions. Once a final decision is made, the matter will be transferred to Parliament for further deliberation. Our intention is to complete the election of the Prosecutor General during next week’s session,” Papuashvili stated.
