Speaker: Opposition's escalation demands could have triggered military conflict and economic crisis

The Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, criticized the opposition for its past calls to escalate tensions, impose sanctions, stating that such actions could have led to economic collapse and military confrontation with Russia.

“Let’s remember who acted in what way and what the opposition was doing. Half of them were at the airport, waiting for planes from Ukraine and calling for the state to send volunteers. The other half stood on Rustaveli alongside NGO representatives, declaring that they would rather burn in bomb fire than endure shame. This is what the opposition and NGOs told us.

Had we followed their lead, Georgia would have collapsed economically and been dragged into war. No one knows whose tanks would be in our country today or whose bullets would have been fired. Because we did not give in to their hysteria, we have become a leader in economic growth,” the Speaker said.
