“It is inconceivable for Europe to align itself with a demand to release a dictator who established a system of torture,” wrote the Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, on social media.
Papuashvili responded to a post shared earlier today by former President Mikheil Saakashvili, in which he thanked Rasa Juknevičienė and Members of the European Parliament for referencing his release in a recent resolution.
“Political clientelism undermines the European Union’s commitment to its core values—human rights and the rule of law,” Papuashvili added.
