Speaker: IMF assessment remarkable, but frustration grows over external interference hindering our progress
“The truly astonishing results of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) assessment are proof of why you should follow your national interests and not the dictates of others,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili wrote on Facebook.
In his statement, Papuashvili drew a contrast between Georgia and Moldova, citing the IMF’s report as evidence of Georgia’s economic success.
“Moldova, which has complied with every demand from Brussels, is facing severe economic stagnation, while Georgia, under attack from Brussels, is being called an economic miracle. This contrast speaks for itself.
More than this joy, perhaps, is the anger when you realize that we could have achieved twice as much if not for the constant attempts to damage Georgia from the outside; if not for the hatred and extremism fueled by donors; if not for the NGOs’ attempts to drag Georgia into an escalation with Russia; if not for domestic actors acting with external interests and foreign flag bearers,” Papuashvili wrote.
