Speaker accuses NED of funding radical entities, questioning its legitimacy
For its funding of numerous radical, wokeist, disinfo-spewing parties and organizations, NED may be a scam, indeed, the Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, wrote on the social media.
“Since, finally, the NED issue is being raised in US domestic politics, we have to remember how and who from NED has been trying to mess things up in Georgia.
In 2020 and 2021, NED directly meddled in Georgian politics through funding supposedly “independent” TV company Pirveli, for ostensibly increasing media freedom and transparency. However, this company was owned and operated by the radical political party Lelo and oligarch Khazaradze, and aimed at overthrowing the democratically elected government of Georgia.
Before the 2021 local elections, through NED funding, TV Pirveli ran scaremongering series of (now proven) fake investigations into the deaths of two young people, Bachaliashvili and Shakarashvili, purposefully deceiving the public by linking their deaths with government’s actions or supposed lack of investigation.
Moreover, NED refused to release the names of the NGOs that received American taxpayers’ money through NED after 2021. Despite our repeated requests and their promoses to do so, NED leadership, including then Chairman of NED Ken Wollack and regional director Miriam Lanskoy, never provided us, even approximately, with the information on the extent of NED operations and interference in Georgian politics.
During the last year’s protests staged by the radical opposition, NED president Damon Wilson personally addressed the crowds in the streets, with an address reminiscing of the aesthetics of the Homeland series, promising them full support while the anti-government protests were turning violent.
These are the tips of the iceberg that we know. For its funding of numerous radical, wokeist, disinfo-spewing parties and organizations, NED may be a scam, indeed,” he wrote.
