Speaker donates inaugural Bible and Constitution to Museum

The Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, has donated the President’s inaugural Bible and a copy of the Constitution of Georgia to the Ekvtime Takaishvili Museum of Georgian Parliamentarism.

Papuashvili shared the news on social media.

“I have presented the President’s inaugural Bible and the Constitution of Georgia to the Ekvtime Takaishvili Museum of Georgian Parliamentarism. The inaugural Bible was specially prepared for the swearing-in ceremony of the President of Georgia, with the blessing of His Holiness, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II. It is adorned with handcrafted Georgian filigree from Davit Kakabadze’s workshop. The cover features enamel icons in traditional Georgian style, with the central image depicting the Holy Trinity—based on an icon painted by the Catholicos-Patriarch—surrounded by the four Evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The back is decorated with an 11th-century Georgian filigree, symbolizing the five-cross Georgian flag.

Three identical copies of the inaugural Constitution were printed specifically for the occasion. One has been placed in the Museum of the Parliament of Georgia, the second in the National Library, and the third in the National Archives.

On December 29, 2024, during the President’s inauguration, a new tradition was established: future Presidents of Georgia will take their oath before God and the nation using this very Bible and Constitution,” Papuashvili wrote.
