Speaker: 62% trust in parliament should serve as lesson to all those foreigners who attempt to speak on behalf of Georgian people
“For me, as the Speaker of the Parliament, the Gorbi survey confirmed that 62 percent of the Georgian people trust the Parliament. This should serve as a lesson for all those foreigners who try to speak to Georgia, the Georgian people, its government, and the Parliament on behalf of the Georgian people,” said the Georgian Parliament Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, to journalists.
According to Papuashvili, the survey demonstrated that the 11th convocation of Parliament, its adopted laws, and implemented reforms are fully supported by the Georgian people.
“Based on the survey results, the Georgian people clearly expressed their stance. When some individuals try to act as guardians, implying that the Georgian people cannot voice their own opinion, this survey shows that the 11th Parliament and its initiatives have full public backing. Let them accept and come to terms with this reality,” Papuashvili stated.
He further noted that Georgian Dream will secure a convincing victory for the tenth time, which, in his view, will be a win for Georgia’s national interests and for the political force that truly serves the people.
“As for the opposition, it’s unfortunate that the radical wing still maintains a certain level of support. Despite the exposure of the torture system under Saakashvili, people have continued to vote for his party and affiliated groups for years. That is a sad reality. However, the main takeaway from this survey is that Georgian Dream will once again win decisively, and with that, the national interests of Georgia—not those of foreign political groups or governments—will prevail.
If the radical opposition had any sense, they would recognize from this study that they still have a chance to gain seats in municipal councils. I refer to the wing that claims it won’t participate in the elections. The study shows they do have an opportunity to represent their voters. If they miss this chance, they will disappear entirely. Any political force that bypasses the democratic process and avoids seeking a mandate from the people will vanish from the political scene and effectively declare self-liquidation,” Papuashvili concluded.
