Shalva Papuashvili: Central Asia captivates European and U.S. interest; Georgia's transit role is crucial
“We recently met with the newly elected Chairman of the Parliament of Tajikistan for an introductory discussion. It is vital to ensure that parliamentary relations are continually revitalized,” stated Shalva Papuashvili, the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia.
According to Papuashvili, a forum was recently conducted in Uzbekistan, highlighting the growing interest in Central Asia, particularly regarding access to various resources.
“Tajikistan is a significant partner for achieving our economic objectives. In today’s landscape, Central Asia has captured the attention of both Europe and the United States. The recent forum in Uzbekistan underscores this interest, particularly concerning resource access. The expansion of Georgia’s transit role is intricately linked to these developments. Maintaining parliamentary connections is also essential in this regard,” Papuashvili emphasized.
Additionally, he noted that he had the opportunity to meet with the Chairman of the Indian Parliament during his visit.
“I also engaged with the Chairman of the Indian Parliament. Our conversation centred on enhancing relations between our parliaments. Notably, the Indian Parliament possesses substantial experience in technology, and its technical capabilities are quite advanced.
Furthermore, the political dimensions of our relations are significant. India is in search of transit routes, one of which traverses our region, the Caucasus. In this context, the Armenian-Indian relations focus on leveraging transit functions, and, undoubtedly, Georgia serves as the pivotal link for transit,” Papuashvili concluded.
