A temporary parliamentary commission focused on women’s and children’s issues will be established within the legislative body. Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili announced during today’s Bureau session.
According to Papuashvili, temporary commissions will play an active role in parliamentary work.
“With the legislative amendments concerning gender issues, the Parliamentary Council on Gender Issues has been abolished. In fact, the new regulations eliminate parliamentary councils altogether. Temporary commissions, as provided for in the Constitution, offer a more practical and flexible tool for the Parliament to use. Until now, the only example of such a commission has been the one on the restoration of territorial integrity and de-occupation, which is specifically addressed in the regulations. From the outset, we made it clear that a commission focused on women’s and children’s issues would be established in this temporary format,” the Speaker declared.
