National Environmental Agency: Black Sea water quality within norm

The National Environmental Agency on Monday said Black Sea water quality is within normal parameters along Georgia’s entire coastline.

The agency said it conducts Black Sea water quality monitoring continuously on a monthly basis at 12 monitoring points.

The studies determine hydro-biological and chemical parameters, including 13 heavy metals, total petroleum hydrocarbons, 16 polyaromatic hydrocarbons, as well as concentrations of other physical-chemical parameters.

“Per the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive, the National Environmental Agency continues to actively work on improving the monitoring system. Laboratory study results are published on the agency’s website,” reads the statement.
