Western Georgia to see rain, mountains face snow and avalanche risk
Georgia’s National Environmental Agency has issued a weather warning covering February 3 through the morning of February 4.
According to the agency, Western Georgia is expected to see precipitation, heavy in some areas, while sea conditions may reach 3–4 points on the storm scale. Strong westerly winds are forecast across most of the country.
Heavy snowfall is expected in high-mountain regions, along with fog, blizzards and an increased avalanche risk. Authorities warn that poor visibility and snowstorms may lead to traffic restrictions on certain road sections.
The agency also says the expected precipitation could significantly raise water levels in rivers in Western Georgia and trigger or intensify landslide processes in hilly and mountainous areas. The overall hazard level is assessed as medium.
