International tender launched for construction of two further sections of Tbilisi Bypass Road

The Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia has launched an international tender for the construction works of lots four and five under the Tbilisi Bypass Road project.

According to the Roads Department, Lot 4 covers an approximately 8.7-kilometre section that will connect the Tbilisi Bypass Road to the Lochini transport interchange. Lot 5, spanning 10.2 kilometres, forms the southern section of the Tbilisi Bypass. This particular section will connect the E60 international highway (towards Azerbaijan) with the Kakheti Highway, creating a fast and safe link between Rustavi, the eastern part of Tbilisi, the airport, and new industrial zones.

“The Tbilisi Bypass Road is a vital component of the East-West International Highway (E60), serving both to reinforce Georgia’s transit role and to alleviate traffic congestion in the capital.

The implementation of this project will support the growth of transit flows, reduce travel times, improve regional and international connectivity, and increase the capacity of the country’s transport corridors.

It will be particularly significant in improving transit efficiency towards Tbilisi International Airport, the Rustavi industrial zone, and the Kakheti region.

Interested companies must submit their Expressions of Interest in English to the Roads Department no later than 16:00 (Tbilisi time) on 3 August 2026.

Once works begin, the construction period is set at 30 months for Lot 4 and 20 months for Lot 5. The project is backed by financial support from the Asian Development Bank and co-financing from the Government of Georgia.

The Tbilisi Bypass Road (Natakhtari/Tsitsamuri to Rustavi) spans approximately 49 kilometres and is being delivered across several separate lots. Procurement is already underway for the construction of the project’s second and third lots. Detailed information regarding the tender can be found at www.georoad.ge,” the ministry’s statement reads.
