Mamuka Mdinaradze: Investigative Commission's conclusion provides us solid basis to appeal to Constitutional Court to delcare UNM, its satellites unconstitutional

Mamuka Mdinaradze, the Georgian Dream party’s executive secretary, told reporters on Thursday that parliamentary investigative commission hearings have revealed what he termed “unprecedented crimes committed by opposition politicians and their associates.”

The ruling party is preparing to approach the Constitutional Court “to declare the UNM unconstitutional,” with Mdinaradze stating that the investigative commission’s findings will provide a “solid legal basis” for such a move.

“Declaring the collective United National Movement unconstitutional was also one of our pre-election promises.

In addition, we have already initiated a draft law that concerns the declaration of the successor parties of the aforementioned parties as unconstitutional if the essence of the party’s activities, the personal composition of the decision-makers, or the statutory goals are identical to the collective United National Movement,” he asserted.

Mdinaradze emphasized that the Georgian state would ensure the UNM cannot participate in upcoming local elections, describing the opposition as “agent forces” acting on instructions from external supporters.

“Even at this stage, it is clear that the conclusion of the investigative commission will be a solid legal basis for declaring these parties unconstitutional, and we are confident that the Constitutional Court will also issue an objective decision.

The collective United National Movement will no longer be able to participate not only in the local elections but also in any elections in this country,” Mdinaradze added.
