For Georgia’s Sharashidze: introduction of State Minister’s position has no link with addressing security issues
“Introduction of the State Minister’s position has no link with addressing security issues. This is another manifestation of informal governance,” said Giorgi Sharashidze, MP from the Gakharia for Georgia party.
According to Sharashidze, even if the position is introduced for Mamuka Mdinaradze (former head of the State Security Service of Georgia), he will neither have an office nor a secretary.
“I would recommend Mamuka Mdinaradze, not to mind the office. He can work remotely from home if coordination matters. The inscription that the Head of the State Security Service is appointed for a term of 6 months is not accidental. We see that two heads of the SSSG have already been changed in the last year. This is a manifestation of an unstable environment and informal governance.
We should not have much expectation from a person who, in one day, was given the rank of a general in the morning and demoted to a coordinator in the evening. The Georgian Dream introduced the term of a ‘coordinator.’ Giga Parulava announced at the April 27 Legal Affairs Committee meeting that Mamuka Mdinaradze would be appointed the coordinator, which led to frustration among the majority. If this term is so offensive, then they should explain why they introduced it. We say that the appointment of the General Coordinator will change nothing, but be a temporary post and a retirement, and this is a reality,” he said.
