State Minister Mdinaradze urges European countries to halt unauthorised intelligence operations or face further disclosures
“I have the opportunity to warn, including representatives of the special services from our friendly partner countries, and to urge them not to carry out in our country what our country does not do in theirs. I also ask them to treat these relations with due care,” Vice Prime Minister and State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies, Mamuka Mdinaradze, stated at today’s press conference.
Mdinaradze warned that should this counsel go unheeded, certain disclosures would once again be forthcoming.
“Today, our country and our special services possess the capability, as never before, to identify foreign intelligence services operating on our territory, along with their respective resident agents. We handle these relations with the utmost care, and I therefore ask that this matter be approached with the greatest possible caution. I believe it will be clear to all concerned, and they themselves know no less well than we do, what activities are being directed against our country. I wish to address those several European countries that are conducting intelligence operations on our soil in an intensified and sustained manner: Georgian special services today possess considerably more information than those countries might imagine. Counter-intelligence operations are currently being conducted at ten times their previous pace and intensity.
Our law enforcement agencies also hold relevant information. We are requesting that these individuals be withdrawn and removed from the activities they are currently carrying out. Otherwise, and I say this not as a threat, I can state plainly that we will once again make certain disclosures in this regard. I believe what we have already done should be sufficient by now. Georgia today has the strength to say this, as never before, thanks to the sound and resolute work of the relevant agencies and their officers,” declared Mamuka Mdinaradze.
