Chairman of the European Integration Committee, Levan Makhashvili, says that “while incumbent Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has expressed interest in running for re-election, it remains important to wait for the completion of formal nomination procedures, as the possibility of an alternative candidate still exists.”

He noted that while no specific date can be given yet, the ruling party intends to announce its Tbilisi mayoral candidate this week.

“I cannot tell you a specific date in advance. I have information that we are going to nominate a candidate this week. Let’s follow the procedures that are necessary to formally nominate a candidate.

I think it’s no surprise to anyone, the current mayor has expressed interest in being a mayoral candidate again. The overall sentiment among the team is understandable, but it is still best to wait for the formal procedures to be finished, since another candidate may be nominated,” stated Makhashvili.
