Hungarian Parliament Speaker: Georgia will achieve its aims to become most prepared candidate country for EU membership by end of this decade
Hungarian Parliament Speaker László Kövér pledged “to provide measures and instruments to facilitate Georgia’s integration, development, and progress,” and share experience in joining Euro-Atlantic organizations.
During a joint press point with his Georgian colleague, the László Kövér said, “Georgia will achieve its aims to become the most prepared candidate country for EU membership by the end of this decade.”
“Indeed, this agreement symbolizes the friendship, joint cooperation, and common goals that we aim to achieve in the future. I also hope that it will serve as a practical framework for cooperation with regard to Europe and Euro-Atlantic cooperation. This entails that through parliamentary diplomacy, we will strive to provide measures and instruments to facilitate Georgia’s integration, development, and progress. We will also share our experience in joining Euro-Atlantic organizations.
I would like to reiterate that Hungary continues to fully support Georgia in maintaining its sovereignty and regaining its territorial integrity. We will continue to support Georgia in its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Additionally, we will support Georgia in the process of EU accession and respect for the country’s rights, particularly concerning national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
We believe that any measure aimed at interfering in the internal affairs of Georgia is unacceptable. Moreover, we believe that any action that tries to intervene in the internal matters and historical development of the country is also unacceptable. We understand the problems and challenges that Georgia faces. As members of the European Union, we share similar challenges and attacks, though we are full-fledged members rather than just candidate members.
We adhere to the basic principles of peace and prosperity, which were the founding values of the European Union after World War II. We hope that the institutions of the EU will provide opportunities and support these principles. We believe that Georgia must meet the criteria to become a member of the European Union, and these criteria should be assessed based on objective facts. We can observe Georgia’s internal development from the outside and see steady economic growth and strengthening. According to our expectations, the government of Georgia will be the most prepared for the EU membership by the end of this decade. We are confident that everything is in place for this achievement. We are witnessing and following the internal developments in Georgia and observing its economic growth based on the decisions made by the government. We are certain that Georgia will achieve its aims to become the most prepared candidate country for EU membership by the end of this decade. In terms of both bilateral and multilateral relations, we look forward to working and cooperating with Georgia and providing support to help it in its endeavours.
I truly hope that, sooner rather than later, Georgia will become a member of the European Union and join the ranks of countries that prioritize sovereignty as one of their highest principles and values, similar to Hungary,” László Kövér stated.
