PM Kobakhidze: We hope EU’s attitude towards Georgia changes by 2030 as EU membership becomes realistic
“We hope that by 2030, when it becomes realistic for us to attain full membership of the European Union, the EU’s attitude towards Georgia and the Georgian people will have changed,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in an interview with TRT WORLD.
According to the Prime Minister, Georgia’s commitment to European integration was enshrined as a special constitutional norm in 2017.
“We have a clear goal. It was our government that incorporated a specific constitutional provision on Georgia’s European integration in 2017. Indeed, Georgia is perhaps one of the few countries whose constitution explicitly states that European integration is a constitutional objective. Currently, it appears that their attitude is somewhat different and counterproductive. However, we remain hopeful that by 2030, when EU membership becomes feasible, their stance towards Georgia and its people will have evolved,” the Prime Minister stated.
