FM: Georgia will be best prepared for membership among candidate countries when EU opens its doors to new countries

“When the European Union opens its doors to new states, Georgia will be the best prepared for membership among the candidate countries, taking into account its progress over the last years. We have all grounds to be optimistic,” said Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili.

According to the FM, even at present, Georgia is the best prepared for EU membership among candidate countries.

“I express my hope that in 2030, the European Union will be in a position to make enlargement policy a reality and open its doors for new states to join the European Union. The government of Georgia never lies. It says that Georgia will be the best prepared for membership among the candidate countries by 2030, when the EU opens its doors to new countries.

Even at present, Georgia is the best prepared, taking into account the progress made over the last years. We have all the grounds to be optimistic. Let’s think in such a way that in the next five years Georgia will be even further ahead, even better prepared, and even more in line with EU standards, and it will do much more, alongside developed countries and in a competitive environment of the EU, to stand firm under the EU umbrella,” she said.
