FM Botchorishvili: Gov't works hard to secure stability as key to EU membership

Georgia has long held a sincere desire to become a member of the European Union and continues to actively pursue this goal, said Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili.

“Since 2014, Georgia has been an associated partner of the European Union and has successfully fulfilled all obligations required for integration,” Botchorishvili stated during a joint press conference with Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar.

The minister noted that the European integration process is sometimes used as a tool for political pressure and foreign influence.

“Recently, our country has been the target of a large disinformation campaign, with incorrect information provided to the international community and foreign interference in domestic processes. Georgia seeks peace, stability, and a democratic process conducted without external interference. Our government is working to ensure that democratic processes operate within a clear legislative framework, addressing challenges related to national security and stability,” Botchorishvili said.

She emphasized that stability is a prerequisite for EU membership.

“Without stability, essential reforms cannot be carried out. Our government is creating the foundation for Georgia’s accession to the European Union. Our stated goal is that by 2030, Georgia will be the best-prepared candidate country for EU membership,” Botchorishvili concluded.
