Georgian PM: Country must be governed effectively; upcoming legislative package will ensure that
“Today, the ruling team made a very important statement about initiating a copy of the American FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act) and the media law based on the British model, which will outline the standards of objectivity,” – the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, told journalists.
“There are also a number of other initiatives, including draft laws on drug control and juvenile justice. As the majority leader stated, we must reclaim our country.
There were many shortcomings, foisted shortcomings in the legislation and it is our responsibility before our country, and society, to eliminate them as much as possible. This is necessary for our society and the protection of our country’s national interests. The country must be governed effectively, and this is what the upcoming legislative package will ensure,” Kobakhidze noted.
The ruling team plans to initiate a draft law that directly copies the current American FARA. Mamuka Mdinaradze noted that while the parliament previously adopted a “light version” of FARA that was not fully implemented, they now intend to adopt the full, current American version and ensure its complete implementation.
Mdinaradze also announced the creation of a fund to finance public organization initiatives, which will require amendments to the Law On Grants.
