Foreign Relations Committee Chair anticipates significant and fruitful visit to Serbia
Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, has expressed his expectation that the upcoming visit of the Foreign Relations Committee delegation to Serbia will be both significant and productive.
According to Samkharadze, it is essential to recognize the strong political relations between Serbia and Georgia, which should evolve into closer ties.
“Today marks the beginning of our delegation’s official visit to Serbia,” he stated.
“We have already held our first meeting and are now preparing to engage directly with my colleague. Throughout the day, we will also meet with the Chairman of the European Integration Committee, and tomorrow, we are scheduled to confer with the Chairpersons of the Defence and Education Committees, as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the President’s Foreign Affairs Advisor. Consequently, we have a rather busy agenda.”
He continued, “In terms of goals and objectives, Georgia and Serbia share several commonalities. First and foremost, we are both candidate countries for EU membership, and our ultimate foreign policy objective is to join the EU. It is important to note that both countries face challenges related to territorial integrity and political polarization. Our strong political relations should lead to greater rapprochement.”
“We envision the opening of a Serbian embassy in Tbilisi and aspire to upgrade the Georgian diplomatic mission in Serbia into a full-fledged embassy. There are ample opportunities for economic collaboration, including enhancing trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. Thus, there are numerous topics where we can engage in dialogue and share experiences. I genuinely expect this visit to be significant and fruitful,” said Nikoloz Samkharadze.
