Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili met with the Ambassador of Japan to Georgia, Ishizuka Hideki. Deputy Minister Genadi Arveladze also attended the meeting.
Kvrivishvili thanked Japan for its continued support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for the assistance provided since Georgia’s independence.
The discussion focused on key areas of bilateral economic cooperation, including trade, energy, transport and logistics, information technologies, tourism, civil aviation, maritime transport, and investments.
The two sides highlighted the positive trends in economic relations following the entry into force of the Agreement on Mutual Protection of Investments.
The importance of establishing an intergovernmental economic commission was emphasized as a platform to address priority economic issues. The Georgian side has already submitted a draft agreement on economic cooperation to the relevant Japanese authority to facilitate the creation of this commission.
Special attention was given to the potential for a free trade agreement between Georgia and Japan, which would further strengthen economic ties. The launch of direct air connections was also discussed as a means to boost tourism and deepen bilateral cooperation. Additionally, the parties addressed the importance of signing a civil aviation cooperation agreement.
