Minister of Economy reviews cooperation in investment, transport spheres during meeting in NDRC

The delegation of the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, led by Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili, met Deputy Chair of China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Zhou Haibing.

According to the Ministry, the sides agreed to establish a Georgia-China dialogue mechanism to boost Chinese investments in Georgia.

“This will be an intergovernmental format between the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission that will focus on investments in the transport and logistics sectors.

The meeting focused on the significance of the Middle Corridor and Georgia’s role in the turnover of cargo between China and Europe, especially Anaklia port, which will have strategic significance both for the two countries and the partner states of the Middle Corridor.

The parties reviewed modernization and capacities of the railway and the plan for the next 4 years to double cargo transit and reduce trasportation time.

“Mariam Kvrivishvili and Zhou Haibing positively assessed the efforts to intensify strategic cooperation and remarked that the intergovernmental dialogue on investment attraction will be a very important mechanism for promoting the growth of large-scale investments from China, discussing new initiatives, and strengthening trade and economic ties,” the Ministry said.
