On the 25th day of protest, miners from Chiatura have now moved their demonstration to the government administration in Tbilisi. Approximately 600 individuals travelled from Chiatura and have been joined by supporters in the capital.
They are demanding payment of their three-month overdue salaries, calling for the departure of the investor, Georgian Manganese, from the city, and urging the government to take control of the mine’s management. Among their demands are solutions to the banking and insurance issues faced by local residents, many of whom are struggling to meet their financial obligations due to job losses.
The protesters are also advocating for the establishment of an independent fund and the allocation of 5% of mining proceeds for the development of their city.
