Police mobilize in Chiatura municipality; urge mine protesters to adhere to law

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has announced the mobilization of personnel from relevant units in Chiatura municipality to ensure law and order and maintain security.

In their statement, the police urged participants in ongoing protests against the Chiatura Management Company to act within the bounds of the law.

“On April 30 of this year, representatives from the Chiatura Management Company LLC, a subsidiary of Georgian Manganese, alongside specialists in the field, will conduct monitoring at the Korokhnali, Shukruti, Itkhvisi, and Darkveti mines in Chiatura municipality to assess the current situation.

As the public is aware, some miners in Chiathave have been protesting recently. Therefore, to uphold law and order and ensure safety in the area, police will be deployed.

We strongly encourage those participating in the demonstrations to respect the law. Any instances of illegal activity will prompt an appropriate legal response from the police,” the MIA statement concluded.
