“Dear scientists, I congratulate you on this important occasion, the 85th anniversary of the establishment of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences. This jubilee symbolizes our country’s intellectual heritage, its intellectual potential and its aspiration for progress,” Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili said.

According to the president, science is essentially an attempt by humanity to discover and understand the divine laws that underpin the universe.

“Consequently, every new scientific discovery brings humanity closer to the Creator. The development of science has played a fundamental role in human evolution, clearly demonstrating that understanding the universe and transforming our existence for the better are real possibilities within human reach.

Science is not merely a closed process taking place in academic circles or laboratories; it directly shapes the reality in which we live every day. Science transforms our world in two fundamental ways: on the one hand, through technological progress, it continuously reshapes and improves our everyday environment; on the other, it constantly enriches and expands our understanding of the universe.

“Scientific activity in small nations is associated with specific and often difficult challenges. These may include limited financial resources, a lack of large-scale research infrastructure and the persistent threat of brain drain. Accordingly, for countries like ours, achieving success in science means continuously competing in an unequal global environment,” Kavelashvili said.

The president noted that Georgia had always faced formidable obstacles and achieved historic victories through sound policies and tireless work.

“Our historical experience teaches us that Georgia has always faced the most difficult obstacles and achieved historic victories through sound policies and tireless work. Today, we remain firmly convinced that if the intellectual direction of our nation and the state’s vision are aligned toward a common national goal, we will also be able to respond to the most complex challenges of our time with dignity.

“Today’s global crises, in their essence, are also linked, to some extent, to science and to an in-depth understanding of ongoing processes. Although small states do not possess vast material resources, we aspire to play an active and constructive role in promoting global peace and stability and overcoming crises.

One of the principal ways to achieve this goal is for Georgia to become an internationally recognized center of intellectual attraction — a space where scientific activity can be revitalized and offer solutions to the world’s contemporary challenges. This is directly linked to the sustainable development of our state and a peaceful future.

Eighty-five years is a long and proud history. The Georgian National Academy of Sciences has come a long way and nurtured generations of scientists who have brought recognition to our country. Today, it is the duty of our state and society to stand firmly behind Georgian scientists and help preserve the continuity between generations so that together we can build an even stronger, safer and more developed Georgia.
