Mayor Kaladze: Large-scale works on Rustaveli Avenue inevitably cause some inconvenience
Rehabilitation work on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi is progressing actively and, as promised, will be completed by the end of November, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said at today’s municipal government meeting.
Kaladze noted that projects of this scale inevitably involve temporary restrictions and inconvenience during construction.
“Underground utilities on Rustaveli Avenue are being completely replaced, and pedestrian sidewalks are being repaired. Certain traffic difficulties have arisen on the avenue, but carrying out work on this scale without some inconvenience is unimaginable. I once again apologize to residents. We understand that this is difficult. I assure you that once the project is completed, the avenue will be fully refurbished and upgraded,” Kaladze said.
The mayor added that the buildings and structures along the avenue are scheduled for comprehensive rehabilitation and renovation next year.
“We have reopened traffic from Chovelidze Street to Elbakidze Ascent. A certain section still requires work on the lower layers, but preparatory work has already begun there, including raising utility manhole covers so that the final layers of asphalt can be laid.
“The final asphalt layer will be laid in one coordinated operation once preparations are complete across all sections of the avenue. This will be the final stage of the project. The work is therefore proceeding according to plan,” Kaladze said.
