American psychiatrist: Saakashvili shows dementia symptoms

Today, Tbilisi City Court heard from the American expert-psychiatrist, Eric Goldsmith, who said that imprisoned Georgian ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili has dementia symptoms.

Following medical checks, the doctor assumed that “Saakashvili evidences a severe memory problem. Specifically, he has problems learning new information.”

“Previously, he had a bright, sharp mind, but now his thinking is slow and, at times, confused. He evidences inappropriate presentation of himself. These are the symptoms of dementia,” he went on.

The American expert said that Saakashvili “also evidences weakness and has difficulty getting up from a chair and walking. He has lost weight. Dementia is due to exposure to toxic elements, such as mercury and arsenic. Because of rapidly progressing dementia has gotten over a short period of time, his life is in danger.”

In his remark, Goldsmith said that he had used “scientific methods in evaluating the diagnosis” as well as “reviewed the medical records and the legal criteria.”

Eric Goldsmith recommended the ex-President be transferred to “a qualified clinic” in the West.
