We are trying to use all the opportunities to find the way out of a deadlock that is the issue of conflicts – Zurab Abashidze, Special Representative of Georgian Prime Minister for Relations with Russia, told Georgian First Channel when commenting about the meeting that took place between Georgian and Russian Foreign Minister on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held in New York.

Abashidze underlined that it was difficult to lead a dialog with Russia but claimed that dialog had no alternative.

“We should continue holding a dialog with Russia through the currently available formats such as Geneva, Prague. We should not disregard these opportunities. We did not have an illusion that one meeting could make a change.  . . . This was the first meeting after 11 years and we did not expect changing of anything radically,” Abashidze said.

According to PM’s Special Representative, the next meeting with the Russian side was scheduled for October in Geneva and then in Prague. “We will see what can be done under the circumstance when we do not have diplomatic regions. Dialog has no alternative and this is what we constantly hear from our western partners,” Abashidze said.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Davit Zalkaliani met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 26.
