European Georgia party: Government to be changed through elections

Giga Bokeria, one of the leaders of the European Georgia Party, said that the urge from facilitator ambassadors towards the opposition politicians to enter parliament and use the institutions is acceptable.

However, the opposition believes that working within the parliament under current conditions makes no sense.

According to Bokeria, the situation in Georgia went beyond the possibility to overcome the crisis by using institutions.

“Participation of the opposition in the parliament work is crucial but more important than that is not to allow the elections to be demolished as an institution. The confidence in the elections should not be lost, because in that case, the country has two ways. One very bad way, the way of Lukashenko and Belarus in the 90s, when people are forced to take as a rule that elections make no sense. Or the other, a quick reaction, a legitimate but violent, revolutionary as in Ukraine, that happened to Yanukovych rule,” Giga Bokeria said.

One of the leaders of the European Georgia party further elaborated that none of the examples is relevant to the situation in Georgia.

“We want to avoid both cases. We want the government to be changed through elections only, and this requires having a firm stance,” Bokeria said.
