UNM's Bokuchava: Attack, physical assault on fifth President categorically unacceptable

“Just as the attack and physical assault on the fifth President of Georgia is a categorically unacceptable, the actions against the third President of Georgia are directed against Georgia and the Georgian state,” – said Tina Bokuchava, the Chairperson of the United National Movement, after the meeting with former President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili.

“Speaking of insulting the institution of the President, we should always remember Mikheil Saakashvili, who is currently being persecuted on political grounds,” she noted.

Remarking on the egg-pelting incident, Bokuchava said, “President Zourabichvili has facial injuries; it is truly extremely shameful and shows the un-Georgian face of Ivanishvili.”

She voiced the opposition’s decision not to join the parliament’s “illegitimate Russian commission” following their meeting with Zourabichvili. “The opposition’s decision not to participate in this illegitimate Russian commission is a very important statement.”

“The meeting was largely dedicated to President Zourabishvili’s visit to the Munich Security Conference, where, due to Ivanishvili’s Russian regime’s international isolation, no representative of the unrecognised government was present, and it is critical that Salome Zourabishvili represented Georgia’s national interests.

We discussed the significance of holding new, free, and fair parliamentary elections and releasing political prisoners as the only way out of current political crisis,” Bokuchava added.
