Ex-president Zourabichvili denounces attacks on state institutions
“I call on everyone not to follow provocations and continue peaceful protests,” former President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili wrote on social media.
According to Zourabichvili, similar provocations aim to end protests.
“I distance myself from any violence on state institutions, attacks and attempts of provocation. We observed that the regime is annoyed by our peaceful protests, while similar provocations aim to end protests and discreditation of those forces, which express the free will of citizens and which was confirmed once again yesterday.
I support peaceful protest as maturity of our society and a reflection of responsibility. I call on everyone not to follow provocations and continue peaceful protests because only through peaceful means can we achieve our goal,” she said.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) announced that Aleko Elisashvili, one of the leaders of the Lelo-Strong Georgia party, is detained. “Early in the morning, he attempted to set ablaze the Tbilisi CityCourt’s chancellery building,” the MIA said.
