UNM Chair: PACE to reiterate two key demands for restoring Ivanishvili’s representation in Assembly
“The resolution to be adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Thursday will likely reaffirm two key conditions — new, fair parliamentary elections and the release of all political prisoners — as prerequisites for restoring Bidzina Ivanishvili’s representation in the Assembly,” said Tina Bokuchava, Chair of the opposition United National Movement party.
According to Bokuchava, the Council of Europe’s Monitoring Committee is reviewing the draft resolution today, ahead of the special debate scheduled for April 10.
“Today, the Monitoring Committee, which leads the process, is discussing the working version of the resolution. We participated in the committee meeting yesterday on behalf of Georgia’s democratic political forces. The resolution expected on Thursday will likely reiterate the same two core demands outlined in January — fair new elections and the release of political prisoners. Without meeting these conditions, Ivanishvili’s return to the Assembly cannot happen. This stands despite Tea Tsulukiani’s earlier attempts to avoid these demands. In truth, these are the only viable solutions for Georgia to overcome the political crisis caused by Ivanishvili’s regime,” Bokuchava stated.
