UNM’s Parulava: Main goal is pressuring GD to call fair elections and free political prisoners

“Our task is to force the ruling party, through peaceful means and international mechanisms, to call fair elections and release political prisoners,” said Lasha Parulava, a member of the United National Movement, while discussing the issue of opposition unity.

According to Parulava, the democratic opposition has already formed an alliance and continues consultations with other political parties.

“The democratic opposition has formed an alliance. We continue communication with all political parties. Our main task is to continue the struggle peacefully and to strengthen external pressure, including the use of financial instruments, on the Bidzina Ivanishvili regime. The opposition is working to secure the release of political prisoners and ensure the holding of free and fair elections in Georgia so that citizens can express their will.

First of all, the issue of the European choice is of paramount importance. It was Ivanishvili who organized the sabotage of the European choice. Our task is to force the Georgian Dream, through peaceful means and international mechanisms, to schedule fair elections and release political prisoners,” Parulava said.

He added that the opposition plans to continue working toward unity, maintain a peaceful strategy, and strengthen international pressure mechanisms to achieve these goals.

For context, a meeting of several opposition parties took place on March 2, after which Nika Gvaramia announced that the opposition alliance had been formed. “We are building unity together for victory.”

The opposition parties involved in the gathering also issued a joint statement, signed by Ahali, Girchi, Droa, European Georgia, United National Movement, National Democratic Party, Freedom Square, Strategy Aghmashenebeli, and Federalists.
