UNM Chair: No return to Assembly for Ivanishvili’s representatives without political prisoner release and new elections

“The Monitoring Committee has finalized a resolution that will prevent Ivanishvili’s representatives from returning to the Assembly until political prisoners are released and new, fair parliamentary elections are held,” said Tina Bokuchava, chair of the opposition Unity National Movement party.

“The Monitoring Committee has completed its work on the resolution, and our expectations have been met. This resolution will reaffirm the demands outlined in the resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe during its January session. It calls for new, free, and fair parliamentary elections in Georgia, the release of all political prisoners, and sets these as conditions for the return of Ivanishvili’s regime representatives to the Assembly.

As a result, Commissioner Tsulukiani and Ivanishvili’s other nameless pawns will, in theory, return only as members of the opposition. We all know that free, fair, and democratic parliamentary elections mean the end of Ivanishvili’s regime,” said Tina Bokuchava.
