Revenue Service: Georgia fully complies with international sanctions
The Revenue Service has issued a statement emphasizing Georgia’s full compliance with international sanctions and strict oversight of all customs operations at the border.
“In response to high public interest, we would like to clarify details regarding the TV story aired by Formula on June 7 concerning the enforcement of international sanctions—a report that constitutes another instance of disinformation and defamation.
First, it is important to note that on June 4, Formula formally requested an official explanation from the Revenue Service about sanction enforcement procedures. Despite receiving a detailed response, and being specifically asked not to alter its content, the TV Company aired only a brief excerpt, omitting the full explanation.
Furthermore, both the reporters and the interviewee in the story spread unsubstantiated accusations against a senior official of the Revenue Service, which we strongly condemn.
Regarding the vessel mentioned in the report, customs procedures confirmed that neither the ship nor its owning company is subject to international sanctions. The vessel entered Georgia in full compliance with the law, and its cargo was processed under the appropriate import procedures. Therefore, the claims made in the journalistic piece are entirely false.
Since the introduction of international sanctions, Georgia has fully adhered to the established regulations and strictly monitors all customs operations at its borders. Attempts to question Georgia’s compliance are politically motivated and aim to mislead the public.
We urge media organizations to rely on official, credible, and transparent sources—many of which have already been publicly provided by the Revenue Service—when reporting on sanctions-related matters.
Currently, the Customs Administration operates 37 active risk profiles that automatically identify sanction-related data and flag potential risks. This process runs 24/7 and is managed by highly trained experts, regularly educated by sanction-imposing countries.
The Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance maintains close cooperation with the competent authorities of the United States, the European Union, and other partner nations, ensuring continuous alignment with international sanction enforcement standards,” the statement reads.
