Public funeral of helicopter crash victims held at Sameba Cathedral [Photo]

The public funeral of the rescuers and first aid responders who died in the helicopter crash near Gudauri took place at the Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral in Tbilisi.

Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, members of government, MPs, and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze paid tributes to the victims.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the pilots of the border police and the rescuers of the emergency service will be buried with military honour at family cemeteries.

The rescue helicopter, which had been called to assist paragliders, lost control and crashed in a ravine on July 29. All eight people on board, the crew, rescuers, and first aid responders died in the crash.
