PM: Georgia’s principled position led to victories in international courts
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that Georgia has always maintained a firm and principled stance in defending the country’s interests, including in matters related to Russia and judicial proceedings aimed at establishing the truth.
He made the remarks in response to a journalist’s question regarding the recent decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), which ordered Russia to pay more than €253 million in compensation to Georgia over the ongoing occupation case.
According to Kobakhidze, the government’s consistent and principled approach has been the key factor behind Georgia’s success in both the Strasbourg and The Hague courts.
“We have won all the cases in the Strasbourg Court and also achieved victory in The Hague precisely because of the principled stance of our government,” said the Prime Minister.
Kobakhidze expressed gratitude to the Minister of Justice and all ministry employees for their contribution to the legal victories.
“The war was initiated by the Saakashvili regime; however, the decision was made regardless. Gratitude is due to the Minister of Justice, all ministry employees, and every civil servant involved. This outcome is not connected to the issue of who started the war — the Russian Federation bears its own responsibility. The decision in favor of Georgia was based on this fact. During the retaliatory intervention, specific rights were violated, and the ruling of the Strasbourg Court concerns precisely those violations,” Kobakhidze emphasized.
