Parliament discusses parliamentary control strengthening

The supreme legislative body is currently holding a working group meeting on strengthening the parliamentary control mechanism, in line with the European Commission’s recommendations.

Irakli Kadagishvili, Chair of the Procedural Affairs Committee, told journalists there is a consensus over almost all issues, such as the frequency with which governmental members appear in parliament, their accountability, and their response to questions from MPs.

“Regulations regarding thematic research and normative analysis will be refined. Among the proposals is one related to the appearance of the State Security Service Head in parliament; it is recommended that only the SSG Head be accountable to the parliament,” Kadagishvili said.
