Ombudsman says delay in transfer of Tutunashvili's body aims to hamper determination of death causes

Delay in the transfer of Archil Tutunashvili’s body aims to hamper the determination of the causes of death through examination, – Georgian Public Defender Nino Lomjaria said.

“Perhaps, it was expected that the Tskhinvali side and the occupant state are delaying to hand over the dead body, the similar fact happened in 2014, when the transfer of the body of a Georgian citizen was delayed so that the expertise failed to determine the cause of his death.

I think, the delay in the transfer of the body aims to hamper determination of the causes of death through performing examination. They try to hide the body. Perhaps, by means of international mechanisms we have to put pressure on the Russian authorities in order the dead body to be transferred on time,” Lomjaria said.

The Ombudsman believes that the rights of those citizens who are not able to enter the Georgian-controlled territory should be taken into consideration and protected. “Their security and inviolability must be protected and they should feel themselves protected,” Ombudsman noted.
