Georgia marks 79th anniversary of Victory over Fascism

Today marks the 79th anniversary of Victory over Fascism. World War II veterans gather at Kikvidze Park to celebrate the day.

The Prime Minister, government members, the Parliament Speaker, and MPs took part in the event, extending their congratulations to war veterans.

On May 8, 1945, Germany declared capitulation, marking the end of the Second World War. The following day, May 9, was declared Victory Day over fascism.

The Second World War had a profound impact on Georgia, resulting in the loss of up to 300,000 soldiers from the country.

Today, there are 74 living veterans of the Second World War in Georgia.
