Miners protest in Chiatura

The miners’ protest continues in Chiatura, western Georgia. The protesters gathered in front of the city hall building, demanding higher wages, better working conditions, and compliance with labour protection standards.

The protesters object to the company’s proposed terms and state they will not proceed with the current proposal.

“We demand pay increases and better working conditions.” We don’t have the necessary equipment. What should be done with the plan if the company does not deliver the equipment? They should come to witness how we extract raw materials from the mine. People fell into bank debt, though they promised to stem these debts. Individuals have fallen into poverty. There is no canteen or anything else. There is no healthcare available. Did they provide us with insurance? “A person should be treated wherever he wants,” one rally attendee, Yuza Macharashvili, remarked.

All mines are currently halted.
