Nine miners go on hunger strike in Chiatura

Miners in Chiatura have been striking for eight days at the local municipality building. On June 12, nine miners went on a hunger strike, demanding increased wages, better working conditions and protection of labour and safety norms.

The miners also objected to the three-shift schedule proposed by the Georgian Manganese Company, which resulted in decreased salaries against increased work days.

Labour Inspection is engaged in negotiations.
