MIA released video footage of clashes in Pankisi Gorge

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia released video footage of clashes between locals and Special Forces Units in Pankisi Gorge.

Protesters threw stones and sticks at the Police. The law enforcers used tear gas and rubber bullets.

Locals of Pankisi Gorge express protest against the construction of the Hydro Power Plant Khadori 3 in the Gorge.

Several people have been injured during the confrontation. According to Mamuka Chelidze, deputy director of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 27 people, including 12 locals and 15 Special Forces officers were provided with immediate medical assistance. Eight employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have been transferred to the hospital.

The MIA calls on the protesters to obey the police; otherwise, the special measures will be used.
