Kobakhidze to Orbán: Hungary's support for Georgia's EU path paramount

“Georgia and Hungary are connected by common values, and this unity of values, we believe, is what strengthens the partnership and friendship between our countries and governments,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at the Georgia-Hungary Intergovernmental Summit in Budapest.

Kobakhidze acknowledged Hungary’s role in Georgia obtaining EU candidate status, stating: “When Georgia obtained candidate status, your contribution was particularly significant, and today, as we follow our EU path, your support is of tremendous importance to our country and the Georgian people.”

Georgian PM thanked the entire Hungarian government team for “defending Georgia’s interests at the international level,” emphasising the importance of developing bilateral cooperation.

“We have very close political cooperation, very close political relations, which is expressed, among other things, in the fact that we have very frequent meetings and intensive exchange of visits,” he said. “It is in our interest to deepen and develop this political cooperation even further. The summit format is a very good opportunity for this.”

The Georgian PM highlighted the intensity of political dialogue between the two countries and expressed desire to further strengthen these ties through the inter-governmental summit mechanism.
