Jailed Saakashvili claims Russia threatens Armenia, Georgia; immediate gov't change needed to preserve statehood
“If we don’t change this regime immediately, there’s already a dictatorship, and statehood will come to an end. I say this as the creator and founder of the modern Georgian state,” former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili stated during his remote appearance at today’s court hearing.
According to Saakashvili, after the ceasefire in Ukraine, Russia poses a threat to Georgia and Armenia.
Mikheil Saakashvili stated that “there is a great danger that complete military occupation of Georgia and occupation of Armenia through Georgia will be carried out.”
“I want to tell you the bitter truth about what Georgia faces today. The fighting in Ukraine may cease, but I know Russian reality very well, and Russia cannot stop its military machine. It will desperately need to conduct some kind of military campaign because the Russian state will collapse without these campaigns.
Where will Russia go after the ceasefire in Ukraine? Probably not to the Baltic states because of the NATO umbrella and President Trump won’t allow it. Azerbaijan has a serious army and Turkey backs them. Not Kazakhstan, because the China factor is very important there and China won’t allow it. Only two countries remain – Georgia and Armenia.
Armenia because it couldn’t sort out relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey and is very vulnerable, it took too long to determine its political orientation and lost time.
Georgia because we’re left completely unprotected. We’ve alienated all our potential supporters and friends and left without their support. They destroyed our army despite having many worthy military personnel. They stopped and destroyed the military production that I had created.
Thus, as soon as the fighting stops in Ukraine, there’s a very great danger that a complete military occupation of Georgia and occupation of Armenia through Georgia will be carried out. This is today’s threat. We are completely unprotected. Ready to be served on a platter to Russia because of the oligarchy. If we don’t change the situation immediately, if we don’t change this regime immediately, Georgia’s independence is counting its last months.
Georgia’s independence has been put to an end, there’s already a dictatorship and statehood will also come to an end. I say this as the creator and founder of the modern Georgian state. Most opposition television stations won’t broadcast this speech of mine and most politicians will ignore it, but we have social networks, we need to share on social networks and warn our people,” stated Mikheil Saakashvili.
